The media is dead, long live the town crier
So says Bob Garfield, in this piece on Ad Age that goes on (and on) about the death of media as we know it, because we stupidly gave away all our content in the 1990s and now no one will pay for anything. I think he’s a little caught up in the depression. There are not millions of 14-year olds who are capable of creating their own content networks, no matter how good the technology might seem.
Oddly, if he’s right, it may be that the only thing that will work for most media dwellers is live performance. Write a book, hit the speaker’s circuit. An updated version of the town crier of yore.
Hey, some thing has to work. Thanks to my friend Ellis Booker for pointing out this piece.
